Dear Mississippi United Methodists,

We are grieving with our brothers and sisters along the East Coast. With floodwaters of Hurricane Florence soaking areas of North and South Carolina – with more flooding to come as waters are still rising – here are a few ways United Methodists across the state can help:

  • Pray for:
    • the safety of those affected by the storm
    • for the safety of first responders and others working with survivors
    • for the safety of United Methodist Church early response teams (ERT) and other volunteers who soon will go in to help begin the clean-up.
  • Be generous and donate money to UMCOR disaster response. Please do not donate unsolicited items, such as clothing. The most effective donation before and after a disaster is money, which UMCOR can direct to the greatest need.
  • Send checks to:

MS Conference of The United Methodist Church

P.O. Box 3729

Jackson, MS 39207

*Reference "disaster response" in the memo line.

  • Train to become a certified ERT. This is training that is pertinent for actions immediately following a storm. These ERT members are responsive to and work in coordination with the disaster response coordinators and district superintendents. As it becomes safe to travel and when the Carolina conferences are ready to receive us, we will deploy small ERT teams into disaster affected areas.
  • As more information of needs and volunteer opportunities becomes available, we will share with you.
